When the edit asks for it

- Grading
- Brightness, contrast, saturation, white balance, tint, vignette and blur; per-channel tone curves; .cube LUTs imported once and reused across clips; chroma key for a green screen. Waveform, RGB parade, histogram and vectorscope to check the result.
- Keyframes
- Position, scale, stretch, rotation, opacity and every colour parameter, with easing presets or per-segment Bézier handles, edited on property lanes under the clip.
- Masks and blurring
- Rectangle, ellipse or a bezier pen-tool shape, feathered and invertible. A motion tracker makes one follow a face, a plate or a screen, which you then blur or pixelate in place.
- Text and transitions
- Titles with six faces, an outline and a caption pill, solid colours, gradients and drawn shapes. Nine transitions rendered from the overlap between two clips.

Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Editing happens in your browser, on your device. Your videos go nowhere: nobody else can see them, us included.
Is SelfCut really free?
Yes, entirely. Editing runs on your device, so there are no servers to pay for, and nothing to bill you for.
Which export formats are available?
MP4 in 16:9 for YouTube, MP4 in 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, and MP3 if you only want the sound.
Does SelfCut work on a phone?
Yes. On a phone you edit with touch gestures, like CapCut. On a computer you get a precise timeline and the keyboard shortcuts of Premiere or Vegas.
Which browsers does SelfCut work in?
A recent Chrome, Edge, or Safari 16.4+. SelfCut decodes and encodes video on your own device through the WebCodecs API, and a browser that does not expose it gets a short explanation screen instead of a broken editor.
Are my projects saved, and can I move one to another computer?
Yes, automatically, in the browser on your device: reopen SelfCut and your edit is where you left it. One caveat: clearing the site's data clears the project with it. To put an edit somewhere safe, or carry it to another machine, save a .selfcut file. It holds the timeline and the asset details, not the video itself, which keeps it small; SelfCut asks you to reconnect the source files when you reopen it, matching them back by name, so pointing it at the folder is enough.
